about

Blues Said: "Old Man” In New York City there are buildings called SRO's that were originally created for migrant workers to have short-term stays for cheap. In the past 30 years they've mostly been where elderly poor people who have no family support spend their last days. I've been inside enough of them to pick up on the struggle between cold, hard despair and the will to live.

Blues said: “Old Man…” c. 2014 Sidney S. Whelan

Blues standin' in the doorway, wicked smile up on her face
Blues standin' in the doorway, wicked smile up on her face.
She said "step inside old man. Welcome to my place."

Blues unscrewed a bottle o' Thunderbird wine
Blues opened up a bottle o' Thunderbird wine
Said "well old man. Looks like you're all mine."

Blues said "you ain't got a nickel to your name. Ain't been paid"
"You ain't got a nickel to your name. You ain't been paid."
Said "not only are you mine old man but looks like you'll have to stay."

Blues standin' in the kitchen watchin' the cornbread burn
Blues standin' in the kitchen watchin' the cornbread burn.
Shook her head, said "old man, you'll never learn."

Blues said "ain't no bed for you, just a pallet on the floor."
Ain't no bed for you, just a pallet on the floor."
And don't you think 'bout leavin' old man, ain't no knob inside o' that door."
